We've paused the daily news feature, for now

We have decided to retire the children's news feature on Daily Adventure for the time being. It was not an easy call, and we want to be straight with you about why.

Why we've paused it

Good news for children is hard to make. Sourcing it is harder still, and doing it fresh every single day is harder again.

Most children's news is built for a screen. Pictures, video, captions. Stripping that back to audio that still makes sense, and that we are happy to put in front of a child, is a slow and careful process. We are not willing to cut corners on the child-safe part, and we are not willing to serve up something stale either.

Even the BBC's Newsround, with a full team and years of experience, finds this a real challenge. For a small team trying to do it daily and audio-only, it is a tall order. So rather than do it badly, we are stepping back until we can do it properly.

What this means for you

If you do not use the feature, nothing changes.

If you had it switched on, here is what you will notice:

  • The option has been removed from the app, so you will not see it as a choice any more.
  • On a card that still had it enabled, the news section will now play a brief silence and then move straight on to the next part. Nothing breaks. It simply skips.

There is nothing you need to do.

We hope to bring it back

This is a pause, not a goodbye. We still think a calm, screen-free way for children to hear about the world is worth getting right. When we have a way to do that to a standard we are happy with, we will bring it back. We hope that will be soon.

Thanks for bearing with us. As ever, we would rather be honest about what we can and cannot do well than promise something we cannot keep up.
